Frequently Asked Questions

Q: It's only a small rock chip. Can I wait to have it repaired?

A: No. You really shouldn't delay. The windshield is an important structural element of your car. If weakened due to unattended damage, it will not provide optimal protection in an accident. Many small chips or surface cracks only affect the outer layer of the windshield, so it can be mended before it gets any worse and requires more time and money to fix

Q: What's the difference between glass in a windshield and other window glass?

A: Auto glass is designed and manufactured for optimum safety in the event of a crash. Your windshield is made of laminated safety glass. The side and rear windows are made of tempered glass. Laminated safety glass is two pieces of glass with a layer of vinyl sandwiched between, so it will stay intact in a collision. Tempered glass has been treated to make it much stronger than other glass of the same thickness. If it breaks, it is designed to shatter into small pieces to avoid serious injury.

Q: Why do I need a certified technician?

A: Because the windshield is part of a car's safety system, repair or replacement work should be done by experienced professionals who are familiar with many different types of vehicles and the best techniques/products to use for a particular job.

Q: What information will I most likely be asked, when I call?

A: The type of glass damage or problem that you have.
The year, make and model of your vehicle.
Explain where you want to have the work done. In shop, pick and delivery service or mobile service?
Schedule service when it is convenient for you.• •
Acme Glass and Mirror is conveniently open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm in our Monroe and Ruston Locations.

Q: How long will it take to repair/replace my windshield?

A: To repair a small chip or ding (without replacing the entire windshield) takes about 30 minutes. Length of service will vary for a complete windshield replacement. Most vehicles' windshields can be replaced and within 2 hours.

Q: What is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement windshield? Why is it important?

A: An OEM replacement windshield is produced from original equipment-style tooling. This type of windshield will have the same appearance of your car's original windshield and will fit properly in the window frame making your vehicle much safer and noise and leakage problems much less likely. OEM glass manufactures partner with automobile producers to enhance overall functionality and improved performance.

Q: What do I need to know about adhesives?

When considering a windshield replacement always ask the facility or even the technician that will be doing the work on your vehicle, "What is the cure time or "Safe Drive Time" of the urethane being used?"

At Acme Glass and Mirror we ONLY use Sika Tack Move It which has a 1 hour cure time or "Safe Drive Time". Our technicians have been certified by the adhesive manufacturers in proper use of adhesives and adhesive primers.

Q: What kind of warranty should I expect?

Acme Glass and Mirror guarantees the work of our certified technicians and offers a written warranty. Please contact any one of our locations for specific product warranty information. Our goal at Acme Glass and Mirror is to provide you with 100% satisfaction.
